Bereavement & Euthanasia Services

The staff of Northwoods Veterinary Clinic understands that experiencing the loss of a pet can be one of the most difficult things that an owner will ever face. Most of us here have had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize one of our cherished pets. We are here to help you through that emotional time when it occurs. Please do not hesitate to schedule an appointment for our doctors to discuss your pet’s quality of life. We can help you assess your pet’s situation to determine if there are treatments available or if euthanasia may be the best option.

Some of the reasons why you may have to face a pet’s death:

  • Terminal illness
  • Old age or senility
  • Fatal accident of unexpected occurrence
  • Behavioral problems
  • Long-term or chronic illness entailing heavy burdens in terms of care and/or finances

Points to consider when assessing your pet’s quality of life:

  • Pain or serious discomfort when walking or moving
  • Drastic loss of appetite
  • Vomiting and/or diarrhea
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Incontinence or other serious problems with urination or defecation
  • Capacity to see and hear properly
  • Non-responsive, unmanageable or dangerous behavior
  • Altered mental state
